Kali Linux for Penetration Testers
Zero to advanced: Linux fundamentals, day-to-day command-line skills, and every major Kali tool category.
Course overview
A complete Linux and Kali track for anyone starting from genuinely zero. What an operating system even is, through real day-to-day command-line fluency, bash scripting, and every major tool category a working pentester actually uses daily: networking/recon, web and vulnerability scanning, exploitation and post-exploitation, and password attacks. Every tool is taught with real commands and real output, not just a name-drop, and the course closes with the workflow habits (tmux, SSH, note-taking) that separate someone who knows the tools from someone who works efficiently with them.
What you'll learn
- Explain what an operating system and a Linux distribution actually are, and why Kali exists as a pentesting-focused one
- Navigate the Linux filesystem and command line fluently, including permissions (chmod/chown) and process management
- Use text-processing tools (grep, sed, awk) and command chaining (pipes, redirection) to work efficiently at the shell
- Write bash scripts to automate repetitive reconnaissance and enumeration tasks
- Run and interpret Nmap scans, netcat sessions, and packet captures for network reconnaissance
- Use Burp Suite, content-discovery tools, and sqlmap for web application testing
- Use Metasploit, searchsploit, and privilege-escalation enumeration scripts for exploitation and post-exploitation
- Crack password hashes with Hashcat and John the Ripper, and brute-force live services with Hydra
- Work efficiently with tmux, SSH, and a real note-taking workflow across a multi-day engagement
Who this course is for
Anyone starting a pentesting or offensive security path who has never used Linux before, this course assumes zero prior Linux or command-line experience and builds up from there. Also useful as a fast-paced refresher for anyone who knows Linux casually but has never used it as a daily pentesting driver.
